Drummer and Football Player Willow Sculptures Ages 11-13 Friesland School, Nottingham As part of the weeklong Arts week, the school wanted to create a willow sculpture to become a permanent feature in the grounds of the school. The school had recently had many achievements in sport and music and this was to reflect in the subject matter of the sculpture. Two full size figures were designed, a footballer complete with football and a drummer with drum. The figures were created using a mild steel and chicken wire frame that was covered with woven willow in the classrooms. The children of year 7 and 8 took part to weave the figures and they created a great piece of art that can take pride of place in the school ground.      |
