Pilgrim Woman Gainsborough

Pilgrim Woman: Gainsborough stands by the waters edge of the River Trent in Gainsborough, measuring 50cm tall she sits upon a plinth of local stone which reads ‘Steering our future, Informed by the past’.

The Apple

Pilgrim Woman holds in her hand an apple, a symbol of growth and new beginnings. The model for the apple was provided by John Sterling and is taken from a new variety called Pilgrim 400.

Watch behind the scenes of the making of Pilgrim Woman Gainsborough

Artist Rachel Carter has been commissioned to create a sculpture for the Pilgrim Roots district in the Midlands, UK.

This video shows the artist and stone mason Graeme visiting a local quarry to select the plinth. The sculpture is a 50cm bronze Pilgrim Woman that will sit upon a stone plinth carved with the words "Steering our future, Informed by the past".

This clip was taken at Pangolin Editions foundry when I went to view the progress of the Pilgrim Woman sculpture.

The sculpture will be sited on the banks of the River Trent, near Gainsborough Old Hall where a group of separatists were thought to have worshipped in secret.
