Coiled Form with Solomon Knots

2,400.00

Coil Form features a triple row of Solomon knots worked vertically down the front of the sculpture to create a delicate textured feature, inspired by sea creatures that create delicate structures around themselves as protection. The rear of the sculpture has a single row of fine knots. The knots once cast become forever preserved in bronze and offers a view into the interior of the sculpture which is mounted onto a plinth at a slight angle.

How Its Made: Each sculpture begins with a sketch and an idea of size and scale required. This sculpture was worked differently to the rest in the Knotted collection, and began with a small coil of wax held with a single Solomon knot. As further layers of wax are wound, they are held with further knots until the sculpture is half completed.  The hollow form of the sculpture, a negative solid core of investment plaster is then nestled into the coiled form, then the coiling can continue winding and knotting until the plaster is firmly trapped inside. This unique wax and linen sculpture is transported to the foundry to be transformed into bronze using the lost wax technique, where every individual knot and length of thread is preserved. The sculpture is finished with the artists signature stamp, given a polish of bees wax and attached onto it's plinth.

Bronze requires very little maintenance to keep it looking great for years to come, just a light polish with a bees wax based polish is all that it needs.
