This is my Gt,Gt Uncle Private Herbert Godfrey 266313 part of the 1st/7th Bn. Sherwood Foresters Notts & Derby reg who died on the 1st July 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. He is remembered on the Thiepeval Memorial, France and the War memorial in St Leodegarius, Basford, Nottingham.

A fellow artist Joy Pitts has been commissioned to create a new art work called “Military Boots” in which she has asked members of the public to remember their family past and present who have served in The Armed Forces.

Here is my tag, chain stitched in orange thread and reads “H.Godfrey”, now I’m going to post it to the artist and look forward to it becoming part of the art work.
